Beef Efficency Scheme update
There are a few things to note and watch out for as we draw closer to the end of the Beef Efficiency Scheme (BES) year.
BES 2018 – early selection of autumn born animals
As per the news article at the start of the year; we will be offering an early selection of autumn born calves. To be considered for early selection; calving data must be completed by 12 October 2018.
BES 2017 – Scheme payments
Payment for 2017 began in July 2018, and it is hoped that the majority of payments will be made by the end of October 2018.
BES 2017 – tissue tagging rounds reminder
We will soon be contacting businesses that have yet to return tags from the earlier selections of 2018. This is to remind participants that the tags need to be returned to the lab by 31 December 2018 at the very latest.
BES 2018 – further points to note
ScotEID issue emails one month prior to the deadlines set for providing calving and disposal data. If you are not receiving these emails; please check that ScotEID have your up-to-date email address. Also check emails are not sent to spam folders.
ScotEID emails are also issued when calves start reaching 400 days old, and no weight has been recorded against it.
Under BES you are provided with a further month to update information when you are notified of outstanding data requirements. The month starts from the date you are notified by us. Meeting these deadlines will ensure that no reductions will be applied to 2018 Scheme year payments.
Genomics
BES participants should note that an update on the genomics will be made through communications by the end of the year.
