Gate

Date published: 30 March, 2015

You can apply for either a stock fence or deer fence gate, depending on the fencing you have in your application.

Gates must be fit for purpose – enabling appropriate management or allowing any necessary husbandry operations to be carried out. For example, livestock grazing control or woodland establishment.

Your supporting information and map must clearly identify which type of gate you are applying for and where they will be positioned.

The gate must have a minimum width of three metres and be soundly framed and fitted correctly with hinged hangings and latches.

The use of wire, rope or twine to secure the gate is not acceptable. This capital item includes the cost of one strainer. Flake gates are not acceptable.

Gates and gateposts will be either timber or galvanised steel. If timber, gates and gateposts are to be pressure-treated softwood or untreated hardwood.

When planning access provision, you should always take account of the needs of people with disabilities.

We require this item to be in place, meeting minimum specifications and in good working order for a period of at least five years following the date you received your payment.
