Low Impact Silvicultural Systems Monitoring
Date published: 30 March, 2015
This item is for monitoring the changes within woodland that is being managed under low impact silvicultural systems (LISS – also known as continuous cover forestry or CCF) where the monitoring is crucial to meet the objectives of the Woodland Improvement Grant – Low Impact Silvicultural Systems option as detailed in your supporting information.
Monitoring must be undertaken as specified in Forest Research Information Note 45.
This item is based on one formal assessment in each five year period. Monitoring plots must be located with GPS to enable Forestry Commission Scotland inspections.
In each plot the following should be recorded for tree species:
- the species, height, and diameter of each tree (more than seven centimetres diameter at breast height)
- the species and number of regenerating saplings and / or seedlings
