Manual Brashing
Date published: 30 March, 2015
This is for the removal of lower branches of trees along path routes in areas of high use.
The area where brashing is to occur must be detailed on your Woods In and Around Towns Operational Plan map.
Brashing is used to increase light levels along path edges and to open up views.
Brashing should be carried out using purpose-made hand or mechanical pruning saws (not chainsaws). Cuts should be flush with the stem and to a minimum height of two metres above ground level and to a minimum of five metres in from the edge of the path on both sides.
