Self-closing Gate

This item is for the supply and installation of a timber or steel self-closing gate. The specific self-closing gate specification can be selected from the options below and must be agreed with Forestry Commission Scotland in advance. Two-way opening wide (1.5 metre steel or 1.6 metre timber) gates should be used wherever possible.
Your Woods In and Around Towns Operational Plan and map must clearly identify which type of gate you are applying for and where they will be positioned.
Self-closing gates (two-way opening)
Galvanised steel H-frame gate:
- 1.2 metre height x 1.2 metre wide galvanised steel gate with H-frame posts or 1.2 metre height x 1.5 metre wide galvanised steel gate with H-frame posts
- two-way self-closing gate hinges
- easy latch and gate stop
- installed 0.7 metres deep in concrete
- bottom hinge reversed to prevent removal
Timber gate:
- 1.2 metre height x 1.2 metre wide timber gate – width post-to-post 1.7 metres – with timber posts or 1.2 metre height x 1.6 metre wide timber gate – width post-to-post 2.1 metres – with timber posts
- hanging post and shutting post 2440 x 150 x 150 millimetres; gate uprights 75 x 75 millimetres minimum
- two-way self-closing gate hinges
- easy latch and two way gate catch
- set in rammed stone and earth 0.7 metres deep
- bottom hinge reversed to prevent removal

- 1.2 metre height x 1.5 metre wide galvanised steel gate with H-frame posts
- one-way self-closing gate hinges
- easy latch and gate stop
- installed 0.7 metres deep in concrete
- bottom hinge reversed to prevent removal
Timber gate:
- 1.2 metre height x 1.2 metre wide timber gate – width post-to-post 1.5 metres – with timber posts or 1.2 metre height x 1.6 metre wide timber gate – width post-to-post 1.9 metres – timber posts
- hanging post and shutting post 2440 x 150 x 150 millimetres; gate uprights 75 x 75 millimetres minimum
- one-way self-closing gate hinges
- easy latch and gate stop
- set in rammed stone and earth 0.7 metres deep
- bottom hinge reversed to prevent removal
